Uzbekistan increases cargo transportation in 2009

Uzbekistan has increased cargo transportation to 1,096 billion tons in 2009, the State Statistics Committee said.
Including 976.9 million tons of cargo (89.2 percent of total cargo transportation) or 18.2 percent more than in 2008 were transported. Freight turnover increased by 10.2 percent and was 23.2 billion ton-kilometers.
In 2009, cargo transportation by railway increased by 4.5 percent and was 65.7 million tons; freight turnover increased by 3.4 percent and amounted to 24.2 billion ton-kilometers.
According to the committee, the amount transported through pipelines decreased by 30.5 percent and was 53.1 million tons. Also, freight turnover by main pipelines decreased by 22.2 percent and was 30.6 billion ton-kilometers.
The freight turnover in the whole republic decreased by 6.9 percent and was 78.1 billion ton-kilometers.
In 2009, passenger transportation by all kinds of vehicles increased by 8.2 percent and was 5.697 billion over the year. Passenger traffic increased by 9.6 percent and was 71.0 billion passenger-kilometers.
About 5,576 billion were transported by motor transport.
Passenger transport by railway increased by 8.2 percent and amounted to 14 million.
About 1,541 passengers or one percent more than in 2008 were transported by air transport.
