Georgian commercial banks increase volume of deposits

As of Feb.1, the volume of deposits placed in the Georgian banking sector (including current accounts and term deposit business and household sectors, as well as the payable interest) reached over 3.5 billion lari, which is  higher by 2.2 percent or 74.7 million lari compared to early 2010.

The National Bank of Georgia reported that the volume of time deposits of business and commercial sectors increased by 75.9 million lari, or 3.6 percent compared to the previous month.

Dollarization coefficient of deposits was 74.5 percent, one percentage point higher compare to Jan.1, 2010.

In January, the weighted average interest rate on deposits was 8.9 percent, including deposits in national currency - 10.1 percent and in foreign currency - 8.6 percent.

Share of the dollar in the deposits in foreign currency amounted to 76.2 percent and euro - 22,9 percent.
