Iran commissions new road under "North-South" transport corridor

Iran has commissioned new Gazvin-Rasht road under the "North-South" international transport corridor today, Iribnews reported.  Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has attended the opening ceremony.

The new Gazvin-Rasht automobile highway links the Iranian provinces of Gilan and Ardebil with Tehran.

The opening ceremony of 127 kilometers of the Gazvin-Rasht road lengths 138 kilometers was held March 15. About $400 million was invested in this project. The road has 10 tunnels with total length of 5,500 meters and 30 bridges.

Currently, the country selects contractor for the construction of the remaining 11 km of highway. The road's bandwidth is 53,200 cars per day.

The Tehran-Gazvin-Rasht-Anzali highway is part of the North-South international corridor.
