Perhaps, the amount of subsidies given to Azerbaijani farmers is the highest among all CIS countries, Azerbaijani Minister of Agriculture Ismet Abbasov said.
"Taking into account today's realities, the amount of subsidies to Azerbaijani farmers is satisfactory. So, there is no need to increase them. Although, if the Ministry gets such appeal or there is the need to increase the subsidies, we will apply to the government with this proposal.
Minister said that the agricultural sector in Azerbaijan increased by 3.5 percent in 2009, including plant breeding - 4 percent and livestock products - 2,8 percent within the state support.
At present, grain producers get subsidies amounting to 40 manat per hectare of land in Azerbaijan. Thus, 50 percent benefits for the purchase of motor oil, fuel and mineral fertilizers were also given.
