Tourism to become a major source for economic development in Azerbaijan by 2014

The state program on the development of tourism in the country in 2010-2014, which was undersigned by Azerbaijani President
Ilham Aliyev on Tuesday, will contribute in resolving the problems existing in tourism and ensure larger development of tourism in the country, according to the state program placed in the official press.
The key objective of the state program is to forum a modern tourism meeting high ecological, social and economic requirements, and changing it into a major source of development for the country.
The state program indicates that to meet these targets it is planned to implement goal-directed actions in the tourist infrastructure in line with international standards, which stimulate investment and business climate for attracting domestic and foreign investment in this sphere, to create an efficient mechanism to manage and regulate tourism by applying in advanced international experience, to upgrade the quality of services in line with international standards and to boost competitiveness of the Azerbaijani tourism at the market of international tourism services.
The state program stipulates implementing goal-directed actions for improving a mechanism of state regulator and legal base in the sphere of tourism, establishing relevant infrastructure in the tourist and recreation zones, expanding possible use of tourism potential of the country, stimulating tourism activities in all regions of the country, attracting local and foreign investments in the sphere of tourism, developing different directions of tourism, and creating new tourist routes.
It is also planned to design and apply advanced methods and standards to improve quality of tourist services, to expand network of hotels and other enterprises on tourism services, to improve retraining and training of specialists in the field of tourism, to implement goal-directed education projects in foreign countries, to apply advanced information and communication technologies, to publish and disseminate materials about national historical, cultural and moral heritage of Azerbaijan to propagandize national traditions worldwide, to expand international cooperation in the development of tourism.
All actions, included in the state program will be financed by the public budget funds, assigned for the Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and other sources in accordance with the relevant legislation.
