Azerbaijan's GDP ups by 5.4 percent in first quarter

Azerbaijan's GDP increased by 5.4 percent in the first quarter of 2010 compared to the same period of last year, the State Statistics Committee said. GDP amounted to 9.552 billion manat. The GDP per capita amounted 1074.5 manat ($1337.6) increasing by 4.2 percent.

About 6.2 percent of value added is created by net taxes from production and import.

Total production in all sectors of economy increased by 5.7 percent and hit 68.1 percent of GDP compared to 56.5 percent in the first quarter of 2009. The bulk of production (59.5 percent or 5.68 billion manat) falls to the industry.

Added value in agriculture, hunting and forestry sector hits 171.4 million manat, or 1.8 percent of total GDP, the construction sector - 650.4 million manat (6.8 percent), transport sector and storage facilities - 663.6 million manat (6.9 percent), communications and information - 160.8 million manat (1.7 percent), wholesale and retail trade, services for car repairs, household products and personal items - 636.6 million manat (6,7 percent), catering - 105.9 million manat (1.1 percent), rendering social and other services - 885.4 million manat (9,3 percent).

On April 15, the official exchange rate is 0.8034 manat to $1.
