The leaders of Tatarstan, Karachay-Cherkessia, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ulyanovsk and Astrakhan are expected to visit Azerbaijan this year, Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers' Economic Ties with the CIS Department head Aykhan Jafarov said.

"In recent years, the presidents of Dagestan and Kabardino-Balkaria and the governors of St. Petersburg, Astrakhan, Kurgan and Tambov visited Azerbaijan. In late April, the Dagestani president and the Stavropol governor are expected to visit," he said.

Jafarov added that the legal framework, consisting of 71 agreements governing relations between Azerbaijan and Russia, has already been formed. Agreements on economic cooperation with the Stavropol Territory and the Ulyanovsk region have already been prepared for signing. Agreements with Bashkortostan, Dagestan, Rostov, Kemerovo, Nizhniy Novgorod, Leningrad and Tambov are in various stages of concordance.

In 2009, 48 percent of the total volume of supplies from Azerbaijan to Russia fell to Dagestan. The country recorded the second highest volume of trade turnover with Moscow ($150 million in 2009) and the third highest with Stavropol.
