Zestafoni ferroalloy plant starts to work after three days of downtime

The largest exporter in Georgia - Zestafoni ferroalloy plant starts to operate after three days of downtime. The plant's striking and the Ukrainian owner of the factory - the company "Georgian manganez", reached an interim agreement.

The trade union of metallurgists and mining industry workers reported that the plant's 15 workers stopped the hunger strike for a time at the request of the administration.

The parties agreed that a special commission will be set up. The commission will comprise ten persons from the administration and the strike committee, which will work towards the fulfillment of the requirements of the strikers. If the problems doe not resolved within 15 days, the staff threatens to resume strike.

The main demands of the strikers are increase of wages by 50 percent, conclusion of indefinite contracts, increase payment for night work and improve safety conditions at the plant.

The strike involved more than 2,000 workers.
