WB to provide technical assistance to support Georgian Statistics Service development

World Bank (WB) will allocate a grant worth $280,800 to support development of National Statistics Service of Georgia (Gruzstat), Zaza Chelidze, the head of the National Statistics Service of Georgia (Gruzstat) said at the meeting with international organizations and donors.

These funds and technical assistance will focus on the creation of development strategy "Gruzstat" and its transition to Western standards, Chelidze said.

According to him, the project consists of several main components: diagnostics of the situation, development of a draft of strategy and the creation of strategic development plan.

"Technical assistance of the WB will help develop a strategy that will create a stable foundation in accordance with international norms and standards," Chelidze said.

The second important issue, discussed at the meeting concerned Georgia's participation in the program of international comparisons of 2011 in the new status. So in this program, Georgia has participated under the auspices of the CIS, and now will participate in an independent status, Chelidze said.
