Chinese to build bypass railway in Georgia

A bypass railway construction project is being implemented in Tbilisi by a Georgian-Chinese consortium. The consortium includes the Georgian JSC Moststroy and the Chinese Railway Construction Company.

The project envisages transferring the railway from the city center to the Tbilisi Sea. Georgian Railways signed an agreement on the allocation of 100 million euro by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to build the bypass railroad in the first stage. An agreement will be signed with the European Investment Bank, which will also allocate 100 million euro for projects.

The project will be implemented by the Georgian-Chinese consortium, which won an international tender in April.

According the project, the new railway line will be ready in three years. Construction will begin in May. Local employees will be used during construction.

Land owners will receive compensation should the line pass through their property.
