An international conference on introducing investment opportunities to Iranian expatriates and foreign entities will kick off in Shiraz tomorrow, the deputy finance and economic affairs minister said here on Friday.

The Mehr News Agency quoted Behrouz Alishiri as saying that some 320 investment projects will be presented to participants in the two-day event.

Alishiri, also the director of the Organization for Investment and Technical Assistance of Iran affiliated to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance, stated in January that foreign investment in Iran grew by six percent in 2009 year on year despite the global economic downturn.

"Although the economic crisis resulted in an average 40 percent decrease in investments in other countries, we were able to sustain the existing growth trend and experience a six percent rise in foreign investments, Alishiri said.

According to Press TV, Iran attracted $1.6 billion in direct investments from abroad in 2008 despite a 20 percent decrease in the global flow of direct foreign investment. The 2025 Outlook Plan has set an investment target of $3.7 trillion within two decades, of which $1.3 trillion should be in the form of foreign investment.
