Egypt is interested in transporting Kazakh grain via Georgia, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abdul Gheit said at the joint news conference with his Georgian Counterpart Grigol Vashadze in Tbilisi today.
Vashadze and Gheit have discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation behind the closed doors in Tbilisi.
"In particular, we are interested in that the grain was transported through the Batumi port," Gheit said.
He said Egypt buys 7-8 million tons of grain from Kazakhstan a year. "But grain delivery is problematic, since we have to do a big detour on the road because of the supply through Russia and Finland," Gheit said.
"We are interested in shortening the route and this can be done through Georgia," he added.
Gheit also noted that the issue was initially discussed during the Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri's visit to Egypt.
