Turnover in Georgia's business sector grows

A growth was observed in the total turnover of Georgia's business sector in the first quarter of 2010. The total turnover amounted to 4836.2 million lari (1.88 lari is $1), which is more by 1.2 million lari compared to the same period of 2009, the Georgian State Statistic Committee (Gruzstat) reported.

The total volume of products that released by sector amounts to 2554.9 million lari. Large enterprises again occupy a significant proportion - 84.5 percent of turnover, 8.5 percent - medium-sized enterprises and only 7 percent -small.

According to the official statistics, the total investments made in fixed capital of enterprises amounted to 146.9 million lari in the first quarter, which is distributed as follows: large - 94.5 percent, medium-sized - 2.9 percent and small - 2.6 percent.

About 358,934 people employed in the business sector, which is 48,000 people more than the same period of 2009. Some 42.1 percent of them were women and 57.9 percent - men. The largest share of employment - 58 percent fell to large enterprises, 20.7 percent fell to medium-sized and 21.3 percent-small business.

Number of people employed in enterprises amounted to 342,952 people, 60.6 percent of whom work in large enterprises, 21.5 percent - medium-sized and 17.9 percent - small.

Average salary of employees in the business sector was 552 lari, although the women' wages were lower than men' - at averages of 407 lari. The greatest number of employees was in trade sector - 17.7 percent. 16.7 percent of employees fell to the processing industry and 16.5 percent - the health sector.
