Today, no viral diseases are registered in the disaster zone - Central (Aran) zone, Azerbaijani Minister of Health Oktay Shiraliyev said.

"At present, wide-ranging work on disinfection is held in the zone of the disaster. They are relevant today, in summer, when a number of viral diseases and poisoning increases," minister said.

He said that all the preventive measures in the area of disaster will continue. According to their results, serious viral diseases will be prevented.

The Ministry said that the disaster which occurred as a result of flooding of Kura River in Shirvan, Zardab, Sabirabad and other regions of Azerbaijan, posed a potential danger and tense sanitary-epidemiological situation for the population of the flooded regions.

An emergency meeting was held to eliminate the tense situation and provide medical services to the population of flooded regions. The meeting was conducted with the participation of heads of structural units of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Health, as well as relevant state agencies.

Urgent measures were discussed there.

First and foremost, a staff of the Ministry of Health was established to prevent possible infectious diseases among the population, as well as providing necessary medical services, and coordination of activity.

Highly qualified specialists on the main profile were sent there.

Comprehensive measures were held in the area of the disaster from the earliest days to eliminate the epidemiological situation. All necessary medications, as well as means for disinfection were delivered there.

About 17 medical points, 20 health teams, equipped with sufficient medicines and other medical supplies were organized in the area of disaster, as well as in places of temporary residence.

Local chemical disinfectants and preventive measures are held to prevent malaria. Today the population of flooded areas has no viral diseases, including malaria, as well as food poisoning

The main objective of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Health is active preventive and disinfecting measures in the zone a disaster area after drying of territories.

The territory of 2.8 million square meters, which remained under mudflows and groundwater will be disinfected.

After complete drainage of an area of 2 million square meters, work on disinfection of 5.2 million square meters will be conducted.

All activities will be implemented at the expense of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Health.
