Azerbaijan, Baku, June 24 /Trend/

The Azerbaijani Railways closed joint-stock company is restoring the railway road-bed in the Shirvan-Astara railway section, which was suspended on May 9 as a result of increase in water level in the Kur River, the company announced.

So far, four of five sections, which earlier were opened to ensure water flow, have been rehabilitated. To redirect water flow metallic pipes were laid. Intensive work is carried out to close the fifth debacle in the Azadkend-Salmanly span.

Under the restoration work it is planned to replace pier of the 133rd bridge in the 54km of the road, to lay rails, ties, fastening and ballistic layer, to remove outcomes of subsidence in the 23rd kilometer - section, to lay six pipes for water flow with the length of 10.5 meters and diameter of 1.78 meters.

It is also planned to replace 38 kilometers of communication cable, two kilometers of signal cables and eight kilometers of air lines.

Due to water rise in the Kur River, the road bed was dismantled in five sections on the 15- kilometer section of the Osmanly-Azadkend span, 19, 21 (in two places) and 24 kilometers of Azakend-Salmanly span to ensure free passage of water. Moreover, roughly 23 kilometers of road bed flashed as a result of overfloods.
