Turkmenistan to hold int'l investment forum

Turkmenistan is preparing to hold an international investment forum, an inside source reported.

The proposal to hold the forum was discussed at a recent governmental meeting chaired by Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov, the source said.

The first such event was held in Ashgabat in October 2009. The Turkmenistan Investment Forum was held in Abu Dhabi in early 2010.

The last Ashgabat forum was attended by some 600 heads of major companies, stock exchanges, commercial banks and consulting and rating agencies from more than 50 countries.

The participants studied real estate, construction, engineering and transport infrastructure, textile industry, banking, healthcare and pharmaceutical industry, agribusiness, telecommunications and advanced IT, electricity, and alternative energy source investment projects.

Turkmenistan is a major energy supplier in the Caspian region. The country has taken numerous steps to become a market economy.
