Turkey and Iran agreed to jointly construct some thermal and hydroelectric power plants with the total capacity of generating 6,000 MW and 10,000 MW, respectively.

The Turkish side will finance the projects, IRNA reported on Wednesday.

The details of how many plants would be built in each country are not yet finalized.

Energy importer Turkey has been consolidating energy ties with Iran in recent months.

Ankara has signed a preliminary deal to use Iran as a transit route for Turkmen gas and to develop Iran's South Pars gas field in order to take gas to Europe, Fars News Agency reported.
