Kazakhstan has over 500,000 unemployed people

The number of unemployed in June 2010 in Kazakhstan was 495,900 people, and the unemployment rate - 5.7 percent, the Kazakh Statistics Agency said.

"About 69,500 people are officially registered in late June 2010 in the employment services of the Kazakh Ministry of Labour and Social Protection," the agency said.

According to the press-service, the proportion of registered unemployed amounted to 0,8 percent of economically active population (in June 2009 - 1.1 percent).

Meanwhile, according to the Statistics Agency, about 8.2 million people were employed in the economy of Kazakhstan in June 2010. Their number increased by 196.200 people or 2.5 percent compared to the same period of the last year.

Number of employees in this period amounted to 5.4 million people (66.1 percent of total employment).

The unemployed are people who had no gainful employment (work), actively sought and were ready for it.

Hidden unemployment (involuntary part-time employment) shows how many employees employed in the reduced working week, or part-time, and on administrative leave without pay or with partial pay.

The level of hidden unemployment is the number of people not fully (partially) occupied and are on forced leave of the economically active population, measured in percentage.
