Azerbaijan files 94 criminal cases on tax violations

The Azerbaijani Tax Ministry's Preliminary Tax Crime Investigation Department filed 94 lawsuits against individuals and companies for tax evasion, illegal entrepreneurship and other tax-related crimes in the first half of 2010. The preliminary investigations have finished in 39 cases.

The Azerbaijani Taxes Ministry's Preliminary Tax Crime Investigation Department filed 94 lawsuits against individuals and companies for tax evasion, illegal entrepreneurship and other tax-related crimes in the first half of 2010. The preliminary investigations have finished in 39 cases.

During the investigations, nine cases were closed after company heads and individuals paid the government the amount due in taxes.

Some 1.6million manat were transferred to the budget in the reporting period.

Six people were arrested for tax evasion and other tax-related crimes in the first half of 2010 and 63 people were brought to the courts and 125- to investigation.

Cases against 156 tax payers were sent to the relevant tax authorities for further action.
