Azerbaijan determines program on cost of living

Criterion to be used for determining the amount of targeted social assistance will be brought to a living wage within two-three years, the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare poverty and policy of targeted social assistance department head Natiq Gasimov said.

The cost of living for the working-age population is 96 manat, retirees - 68 manat, children - 72 manat. Cost of living continues to increase as part of the policy conducted in the country. The difference between the cost of living and wages will reduce in future.

About 132.945 low-income families in Azerbaijan get targeted social assistance in the first half of 2010. About 140,000 families will get this aid. The average amount of this aid for a family in the country in the first half is 112.98 manat, per person - 24.91 manat.

Azerbaijan passed to this system in 2006. The amount of targeted social assistance is determined based on the difference between the criterion and income per family member. Families whose income per person is below the criterion get this aid.

On July 28, the official exchange rate is 0.8036 manat to $1.
