Azersun Holding names markets for Azerbaijani salt export

CJSC Production Association Azerbaijan salt, which recently put into operation a new plant for production of iodized salt in Azerbaijan, will export about 30,000-40,000 tons of salt, Abdulbari Gozel, head of Azersun Holding, which is founder of the CJSC along with Azerbaijan Investment Company (AIC), said.

He said the Holding intends to export the Azerbaijani salt to Georgian, Russian and Central Asian markets.

"About 30,000-40,000 tons of produced salt will be exported. First, the product will be exported to the Georgian, Russian and several Central Asian countries' markets," Gozel said.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev inaugurated a salt refinery near the Masazyr Lake July 21. The refinery occupies a total area of 7 hectares. The facility's production capacity is 300 tons per year. The refinery will employ nearly 1,300 workforce. Amount of investments in implementation of this project hit roughly 20 million manat. The plant's Azerduz and Bizim duz brands of salt will be exported to word markets.

Salt in the lake with total area of 10 square kilometers, is available in two states - in layers and in the form of an aqueous solution. Lake's salt reserves are estimated at about 1,735,000 tons.
