Turkmenistan establishes Int'l Association of Akhal Teke Breeding

Two-day conference on establishment of the International Association of Akhal Teke breeding in Turkmenistan is opened in Ashgabat on Saturday.

Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov welcomed the participants of the event. "I am confident that the world will highly support our new initiatives aimed at creating united selection-breeding system," the message says.

The Akhal-Teke horses can be seen not only in many parts of Central Asia, Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, the Caucasus region, but also in Europe, Arab countries and even in Canada and the U.S..

The ancient manuscripts and chronicles indicate that two or three hundred years ago there were stables in the heart of Europe, where the Akhal-Teke horses were kept.

Guided by the aim to increase an elite thoroughbred livestock, distribute and promote this unique breed in the world, keep it clean, share experiences and develop effective interaction meeting the requirements of the day in this field, "we have initiated the establishment of the International Association of Akhal-Teke horse-breeding as the urgent need for the current era",  Berdimuhammedov said.

The main objectives of the association are to preserve the purity of the breed,  increase the glory of Akhal-Teke horses, consolidate into a single organization of foreign associations of the Akhal Teke breeding, ensure the control over the maintenance of accurate records of thoroughbred horses of this breed at international level, organize international equestrian competition and protect the gene pool of thoroughbred breeding horses to improve the appearance of Akhal-Teke horses and expand tribal lines.

Berdimuhamedov demanded from the relevant departments of the country to strengthen monitoring of building new equestrian centers in areas, which must conform to international standards by all measures.
