Azerbaijan, Russia expect growth in trade turnover by 11 percent in 2010

In January-June, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia increased by 17 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2009 and amounted to $848.6 million, Russian Federation's trade representative to Azerbaijan, Yuri Shchedrin said at a press conference today.

In January-June, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia increased by 17 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2009 and amounted to $848.6 million, Russian Federation's trade representative to Azerbaijan, Yuri Shchedrin said at a press conference today.

"Export to Russia increased by 44.4 percent to $360.4 million, import from Russia increased by 2.7 percent to $488.2 million ", Shchedrin said.

He said as a result of 2010 the forecasted growth of trade turnover between the two countries is 11 percent, and according to the optimistic estimates there are chances to reach trade turnover at two billion dollars.

"The structure of Russian-Azerbaijani trade and economic relations remain fairly diversified, more than 90 percent of Russian export falls to deep processing products," he said.

The main items of the Russian export are wheat and wheat flour, cigarettes, butter, chocolate, bakery and pastry products, vehicles, power, lumber, paper, mineral fertilizers.

"Russia's metal exports and items from them reached $103 million with an increase of 54 percent compared to the corresponding period of last year," he said.

Food products and agricultural raw materials, whose share is 47 percent, dominate in the structure of the Azerbaijani export to Russia.
