The Russian Deputy Prime Minister, the President's plenipotentiary representative in the North Caucasus Federal District, Alexander Khloponin, is expected to visit Baku in fall, Russian Trade Representative in Azerbaijan Yuri Shchedrin said at the news conference today.

"This visit is expected to contribute to solving problems in border areas and strengthen interregional cooperation," Shchedrin said.

One of the important issues is the restoration of the border bridge on the Samur River, which is actually the only road crossing point. Today the bridge is in a disgraceful technical condition.

Shchedrin said that since the timing of Khloponin's visit has not yet determined, it remains to be seen whether this will coincide with the time of the visit of the governmental delegation headed by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

Active work is carried out with the Azerbaijani businessmen to support their participation in the international investment forum in Sochi to be held Sept.16- 19.

"The next meeting of the Azerbaijani-Russian intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation is expected to be held in Moscow in autumn. The date of meeting is now being clarified," he said.

More than 500 enterprises and 68 organizations of 80 subjects of Russia are involved in foreign trade with Azerbaijan, while 15 regions have signed agreements with Azerbaijan on trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation.

Karachay-Cherkessia, Dagestan, Bashkortostan, Tambov, Ulyanovsk, Rostov, Kemerovo, Voronezh, Novosibirsk, Penza, Leningrad and Nizhny Novgorod region also are ready for such cooperation.
