According to the Georgian Prime Minister, in the recent period inflation rate has noticeably accelerated. Nika Gilauri said at today's governmental meeting that this is due to increase in prices on the world consumer market.

"A few days ago the Russian grain market was closed, and the Georgian Government was assigned to find alternative markets and begin diversifying its wheat import. The Ministry of Agriculture works over this issue. The Government chose Ukraine as an alternative market, and this side's preliminary agreement to supply additional grain has already received. The question is about 150,000 tons, which to some extent ease the situation, with which the country could be faced due to a rise in prices," Gilauri said.

He also noted that the Government has a long-term action plan, which envisages renewal of the seed material. In particular, Georgia will import highly productive seeds both from the U.S. and other countries and distribute it to farmers.

"In this regard, talks are underway with several countries," Gilauri said.
