Cargo transited through Azerbaijan increased by 50 percent in Jan.-Aug.

According to the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee, vehicles transported 29.563 million tons of cargo in January-August or 7.5 percent more than the same period in 2009, the state committee said. Exports of goods in this period amounted to 24.937 million tons, imports - 4.626 million tons.

Over 222,700 tons of cargo was exported by maritime transport, 2.252 million tons - by railway, 362.500 tons - by cars and 194.800 tons - by air. The transportation via pipelines totaled 21.901 million tons.

Over 416,100 tons were imported by maritime transport, 3.174 million tons - by railway, 1,007 million tons - by cars and 13,600 tons - by air.

Over 6,419 million tons of cargo was transited through the territory of Azerbaijan for eight months. It is 50.37 percent or 2.117 million tons more than the same period in 2009.

Over 2.319 million tons were transported through Azerbaijan to Bermuda islands, Italy - 1.199 million tons, Switzerland - 1.1396 million tons, Iran - 350,700 tons, Georgia - 330,300 tons, Tajikistan - 283.500 tons, Afghanistan - 257.300 tons, Russia - 131.100 tons, Turkmenistan - 127,100 tons, and Turkey - 94,400 tons.
