American innovative science company DuPont has begun a five-year joint project with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) on coating its gas stations with corian material, the Company's Sales Manager in Europe Jordi Kavalda said Wednesday at a press conference in Baku.
The project has been under preparation for two years and its implementation started six months ago. Within the project DuPont will deliver about 25,000 square meters of corian to Azerbaijan.
"This project will help us to expand our market presence in Azerbaijan," Kavalda said.
Corian is a composite material invented by DuPont in 1967.
"We do not produce corian in Azerbaijan, we only sell it," Kavalda said.
According to him, corian will be used at SOCAR's gas station located only in Azerbaijan.
"Coating with this material requires painstaking manual labor. This work is done by several local companies. One of them is Palette," Kavalda said.
According to him, corian can also be used for the manufacture of kitchen table tops, kitchen and bathroom finishings, furniture, windowsills and wall coatings.
According to DuPont's Vice-President for Central and East Asia, Jean-Luc Duramy, who also participated in a press conference, the company plans to work in Azerbaijan in the oil and gas, as well as construction, sectors.
"While we plan to work in oil and gas, as well as in construction, in Azerbaijan. We also have products for road building. But we are now considering the possibility of participating in the food sector in the country," Duramy said.
He said the company does not intend to invest in Azerbaijan, but plans to gradually expand its office staff in the country.
"As we are only just entering the Azerbaijani market, we have only one employee in the country. But with the expansion of the Baku office staff we are going to hire local workers," Duramy said.
According to Duramy, DuPont offers a wide range of chemical materials, conducting extensive innovative research in this area. The company is the inventor and manufacturer of polymeric and other materials, such as neoprene, nylon, Teflon, Kevlar, Mylar and other materials.
DuPont was established in the United States in 1802, and is one of the largest scientific and industrial corporations in the world. The company operates in 75 countries and employs about 60,000 people. The company uses its developments in construction, food processing, agriculture, and the oil and gas industry.
