Georgian banks’ assets increase by 0.5 percent in August

According to Georgian National Bank, as of September 1, 2010, the banking sector in Georgia is represented by 19 commercial banks, including 14 foreign-controlled banks and 2 branches of non-resident banks.

According to Georgian National Bank, as of September 1, 2010, the banking sector in Georgia is represented by 19 commercial banks, including 14 foreign-controlled banks and 2 branches of non-resident banks.

Compared to the previous month total assets of Georgian commercial banks (in current prices) increased by 53.3 million lari (by 0.5 percent) and constituted 9845.7 million lari. The banking sector's own funds (equity capital) equal to 1650.9 million lari, which makes up 16.8 percent of commercial banks' total assets, Georgian National Bank said.

The share of foreign capital in banks' total paid-in capital equals to 79.6 percent.

The banking sector finished August 2010 with profit, like the previous month. The net profit in August constituted 12.1 million lari and the net profit year-to-date constituted 71.6 million lari.

The share of five banks having the largest assets within the total amount of the banking sector assets decreased by 2.3 percent compared to the previous month and constituted 77.3 percent.
