The Supreme Aviation Committee in Iran's Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) has approved a 30 percent rise in air travel ticket prices from Wednesday.

The decision has been made despite the directive of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's on increasing the prices only when it is endorsed by the subsidy reform plan's specialized working group.

Although the Supreme Aviation Committee has the authority to change air traveling prices, a meeting will be held tomorrow by the first vice president, officials of the commerce ministry and the Civil Aviation Organization to further study the issue.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways has also announced that the private sector fleet has raised prices by 30-40 percent.

The subsidy reform plan is set to go into effect in the current Iranian month of Mehr(Sept. 23-Oct. 22). The plan envisages elimination of subsidies for fuel and some other basic goods and services.
