The Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) assesses the situation in the banks that do not meet the requirements for the minimum total capital, the head of the CBA Department for Supervision of Credit Institutions, Rashad Orujov, said.

"Earlier, the CBA together with these banks held a joint program of capitalization, and now we re-evaluate the situation in these banks," he said. "After fulfillment of several obligations by the shareholders, the CBA will make a relevant decision."

The minimum requirement for the total capital of the Azerbaijani banks remained at 10 million manat for a long time. Based on the CBA's data, three of the 47 banks operating in the country  formed capital in the range from five million to 10 million manat, one bank - ranging from 3.5 million manat up to five million manat, while one bank - in the range up to 3.5 million manat.

In August, the capitalization of the Azerbaijani banking sector rose by 1.9 percent, by 5.4 percent - since early 2010, up to 2,113.36 million manat.
