State Customs Committee: 'Single window' simplifies checks on railway in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct. 13 / Trend E.Ismayilov /

The Azerbaijani State Customs Committee and JSC Azerbaijani Railways work over exchange of data on goods being transported and to be transported by railway, Customs Control Organization Chief Shahin Bagirov.

Bagirov said the work is underway to improve the risk management system for timely detecting potentially dangerous goods and reduce the time of inspection by customs authorities.

At this stage, this work cover only domestic traffic, but this system will be applied to all customs checkpoints of the republic in the future, Bagirov said.

He also noted the positive aspects of applying a "single window" system on the railway transportation. This allowed reducing the inspection and registration of goods from 2-3 hours to 20-30 minutes. In particular, the system is applied at border crossings between Azerbaijan and Russia.

The holding of customs checks in passenger trains not at customs checkpoints, but during the movement of trains also allowed shortening the checking of passenger trains on the border. This had a positive effect on the release of railways, which prevented the delay of other passenger and freight trains.
