Uzbekistan signed contracts to export over 600,000 tons of ginned cotton at the International Uzbek Cotton Fair, said the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade Elyor Ganiev on Thursday at the closing ceremony of the fair.
"Contracts and agreements for the supply of more than 600,000 tons of ginned cotton," said Ganiev.
According to him, bids for the purchase of ginned cotton were two times more. "The season has not over yet, and I think we will continue this work," said Deputy Prime Minister.
Major volumes of ginned cotton were sold to traditional partners in China, Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, India and Russia. The fair was attended by about 600 representatives of 300 companies from 36 countries.
For the first time in the Cotton Fair, were put up for sale textile products manufactured by enterprises of Uzbekistan - from cotton yarn to finished products.
"We attach great importance to increasing the role of Uzbekistan in the global textile market," said Ganiev.
He said that at the current fair, export contracts were concluded for the supply of textile products in amount of $500 million, including the delivery of finished textile products - $100 million.
International Uzbek Cotton Fair, which is organized by the Government of Uzbekistan with the assistance of the International Cotton Advisory Committee, was held for the sixth time. The first such fair was held in October 2005. Then the contracts were concluded for the sale of more than 1.1 million tons of ginned cotton.
Every year Uzbekistan produces about 3.5 million tons of raw cotton and 1-1.2 million tons of ginned cotton.
