Iran observed stabilized prices for fruits and vegetables after several weeks of price increase. However, price for certain fruits, for example, such as bananas, is steadily increasing because of restrictions on imports and a low yield, the FARS news agency reported.
"The increase in prices for imported products such as bananas is a natural process. The country grew enough fruits for consumption in the domestic market," Iranian Deputy Agriculture Minister Majid Halili Hoshnud said.
Prices for fruits such as melon, watermelon, apples, oranges and bananas, increased by 2.3-10.6 percent compared to the previous week.
The average price for one kilogram of apples in the Iranian market varies from $0.97 to $1.02 depending on the kind, oranges - about $2, tangerines - about $1.04, grapes - roughly $1, melons - $0.60 and watermelons - $0.30. Despite a 4-percent decrease, price for cucumber is about $0.94. Last week, Iran also recorded a 5.2-percent increase in prices for eggplant, zucchini, potato and onion.
