The Agency for International Development (USAID) allocated a small grant to support the restoration of the plant producing fish feed, located near Sheki. It was opened after reconstruction on October 8, the report said.

"While supporting fishery, USAID promotes strengthening of competition in the country. The restoration of the plant will allow local farmers not to import, but use locally produced raw materials for the development of business. It will ensure the development of local business in the country and strengthen the competitiveness of the fishery," Sheila Young, USAID Economic Growth Director, said.

The sector is supported within program of strengthening the competitiveness of the private sector in Azerbaijan. The agreement was reached with farmers to buy 500,000 berries in 2009 within the USAID technical assistance. One million berries will be bought in 2010.

USAID will continue to provide support within the competition and trade program in Azerbaijan.
