Turkmen-Uzbek partnership is of strategic nature. It is stipulated by a number of joint projects, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov told media after the talks with Uzbek counterpart Islam Karimov in Ashgabat.
"In particular, it is the successful implementation of the largest project of the century - commissioning of Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China gas pipeline in December 2009," Berdimuhammedov said. He said that the dynamic development of the two economies has a great impact on the steady progress of countries of the entire Central Asian region.
Ashgabat and Tashkent called the development and intensification of contacts in trade, energy industry, construction and production of construction materials, transport and communications, textile, chemical industry, the agricultural sector as a priority.
"Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have similar positions or views on many urgent problems of global development and world politics. It is a constructive basis for cooperation in the international arena," Berdimuhammedov said.
He said that Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are committed to high principles of universal harmony and good neighborliness, non-interference in internal affairs of other countries, consolidating the efforts of the entire world community in combating modern threats and challenges to achieve sustainable development.
One of the most promising spheres is cooperation in tourism, as both countries have rich cultural and historical heritage, including architectural monuments, which attract the attention of people worldwide.
President Karimov will visit Dashoguz region within the official visit to Turkmenistan on October 20.
He will participate in the solemn events of the Festival of Friendship between Turkmen and Uzbek peoples together with Turkmen President.
