Uzbekistan increased cotton-fiber production in January-September by 4.5 percent to 726.296 million tons compared to the same period last year, the Uzbek Statistics Committee reported.
Cotton yarn production increased by 37.1 percent to 143,463 tons, with cotton fabric production jumping 8.7 percent to 64.905 million square meters.
Uzbekistan reduced cotton-fiber production by 10.1 percent to 1.055 million tons in 2009 compared to 2008.
Textile enterprises increased cotton yarn production by 0.7 percent to 145.54 tons last year and decreased cotton fabric production by 17.5 percent to 83.143 million square meters.
Uzbekistan ranks sixth in the world for cotton production and third for cotton-fiber exports. The country produces about 3.5 million tons of raw cotton annually and 1.0-1.2 million tons of cotton-fiber.
