The new equipment installed in the newly created laboratory for the study of genetically modified products will be tested next week, the State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patents of Azerbaijan said Friday. The laboratory, been established in pilot testing center (AzTEST) of the State Committee for Standardization, is the first such laboratory in the territory of Azerbaijan.
The State Committee said with the beginning of laboratory's work, it is planned to study the market in Azerbaijan in order to determine the percentage of genetically modified products available in the market of Azerbaijan.
Also in the near future, a draft law on genetically modified products will submitted to the Parliament of Azerbaijan. The law has been prepared by the relevant government agencies with the support of the European Union - TACIS.
