Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov proposed to hold the Turkmen-Russian Science and Innovation Forum in Ashgabat in 2011. He voiced this initiative at the meeting with his Russian Counterpart Dmitry Medvedev in Turkmenbashi.

"Multifaceted and long-term relations between Turkmenistan and Russia, which are successfully developing today, meet the genuine interests of the two countries and peoples," Berdimuhammedov said.

Noting the readiness to hold the "appropriate forum on innovation, new technologies and energy efficiency issues", Medvedev said that energy efficiency and new technologies are important areas of bilateral cooperation in the future.

Russia and Turkmenistan will mull the cooperation issues at the joint intergovernmental commission's next meeting to be held in early November.

Medvedev confirmed Russia's readiness to further develop cooperation in gas sphere and the power industry. He cited as an example of successful cooperation the Central Karakum-Yylany gas pipeline built under the contract concluded by the Turkmengaz State Concern with the Russian company MRK-Engineering affiliated with the Itera International Group of companies.
