Livestock production in Azerbaijan increases by 6 percent

The total production in crop production reduced by 9,2 percent, livestock production increased by 6,2 percent in January-September 2010 compared to same period of last year in Azerbaijan.

The total agricultural production in January-September as a whole reduced by 3.4 percent, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said.

As of October 1, about 1.863 million tons of grain (19.9 tons per hectare) were gathered from the territory of 936.300 hectares. It is 973.900 tons less than the same period of last year.

About 928.100 tons of potatoes (with a decrease of four percent), 1104.7 tons vegetables, 428.300 tons (an increase of 5.4 percent) melons were gathered.

Green tea production hit 468,5 tons or 30.1 percent more than for the first nine months of 2009.

The total cost of agricultural production based on actual cost amounted to 2.894 billion manat, or 3.4 percent less than the same period last year. The cost of fish products for the period amounted 85,000 manat compared to 111.200 manat in 2009.

In Jan.-Sept., Azerbaijani produced 241,800 tons of meat and poultry, 1157,5 tons of milk, 903,1 million eggs and 14,800 tons of wool. Meat production increased by 6.4 percent, milk by 7.6 percent, eggs by 0.8 percent and wool by 2.5 percent compared to 2009.

On Oct. 23, the official exchange rate is 0.8012 manat to $1.
