Azerbaijan will be able to export pedigree eggs to neighboring countries in 2012, Executive Director of the National Fund for Entrepreneurship Support (NFES) under the Azerbaijani Economic Development Ministry Shirzad Abdullayev said.

"The 2009-statistics shows that the country needed 60 million pedigree eggs, of which 40-45 percent was provided by the local production and the rest imported," Abdullayev said.

In this regard, there arose a question of the quality and high cost of the imported products. Taking this into account, the NFES announced competitions, within which it began to fund the selected projects.

"Since 2012, the country will have an opportunity to cover domestic demand - 60 million eggs -and export them," he said.

As a result, he said, the cost of eggs will fall due to the establishment of local production.

Earlier, the NFES selected 8 projects worth 26.9 million manat (from 13) submitted for the competition to build poultry farms. About 17.4 million manat will be funded through the fund.

Two poultry farms will be located in the Khizi region, three - in Absheron and one - the regions of Imishli, Salyan and Ismayilli.
