Azerbaijan’s trade operations hit $18 billion in Jan-Aug

In January-August Azerbaijan conducted trade operations worth $18 billion with 139 countries, the State Statistics Committee Chairman Arif Valiyev said at a press conference.

In January-August Azerbaijan conducted trade operations worth $18 billion with 139 countries, the State Statistics Committee Chairman Arif Valiyev said at a press conference.

"Some 85.8 percent of the total operations or $15.4 billion fall to remote foreign countries, and $2.6 billion - to the CIS countries," Valiyev said.

He said as a result of eight months, the volume of trade operations both with foreign countries and the CIS countries has considerably increased.The country's export as a result of eight months hit $9.926.3 million.

"Energy resources rank first in export, while food products rank second. Export of tea and sugar increased significantly. Azerbaijan's main partner in export operations is Italy, which accounts for 33 percent of total exports, while Israel ranks second," he said.

According to him, Italy's leadership is due to the fact that energy resources from Azerbaijan is exported first to Italy, and then to other countries.

During the reporting period the country's imports amounted to $4 billion.

"Import of rice, chocolate, trucks and buses decreased during the reporting period, and poultry meat, potatoes and butter - increased. The major volume of goods is imported from Russia, while it is followed by Turkey and China," he said.
