The Azerbaijani Government and the European Commission on the conclusion of associative agreement are likely to hold negotiations in Baku in mid-December, the Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev told journalists today.

Azerbaijan cooperates with the EU based on an agreement on partnership and cooperation. The future associative agreement envisages significant deepening of cooperation in priority areas.

"The third round of talks will be held in Baku, if Azerbaijan and the EU are ready for it," Mammadguliyev said.

The second round of talks on a new agreement took place in early October in Brussels.

"We still have enough unresolved issues, which also includes trade," Mammadguliyev added.

Signing associative agreement with the EU will raise Azerbaijan's cooperation with the EU countries to a new level and create a united free trade zone with the European countries. According to the requirements of the European Union, for this a contender country should be the WTO member.

Azerbaijan is an observer country in the WTO.
