Quota for employment of foreigners in Azerbaijan in 2010 implemented at 42 percent

In January-September, the Migration Department at the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Azerbaijan issued individual permissions to 4,472 foreigners to engage in labour activities, and the period of 1,812 permissions issued in previous years has been extended, the head of the press service of the Labour Ministry Elnur Kalantarli said to a press conference on the results of three quarters of 2010.

As of Oct. 1, 8,166 foreigners got jobs at 971 enterprises on the basis of individual permit, which is 2,929 people more compared to the same period of last year.

During this period, the permissions granted to 206 foreigners have been annulled in accordance with the law. Of the total number of foreign nationals, 41.6 percent were involved in the construction sector and 29.1 percent - in the extractive industry.

Today, foreign nationals from 87 countries work in Azerbaijan on the basis of individual permits. Vast majority of them are Turkish citizens (3,855 people), followed by British citizens (1,416), Georgia (312), China (299), India (236 people), USA (218), Iran (184) and Russia (167).

The quota defined in Azerbaijan for foreigners totals 10,700 people this year.
