Four Azerbaijani banks ready to connect to new processing system

Four Azerbaijani banks have agreed to use the RoyalBank's new RoyalCard processing system, Chairman Samir Akbarov said at a presentation today.

"Four local banks have appealed to us and we have reached an agreement on connecting them to RoyalCard," he said. "In addition, talks are underway with three other banks."

According to Akbarov, the transition to the system will be made in January 2011.

Akbarov stressed that today the bank has issued 35,700 cards and 30,600 are active. Nearly the same quantities of MasterCard and VISA cards have been issued.

"We plan to increase the number of active cards to 60,000 by late 2011," he said.

According to the bank head, the RoyalCard processing system has the capacity to carry out transactions for 1.5 million cards, while the maximum number of transactions in one minute is 15,000.

RoyalBank was established on Aug. 2, 1993 as OZ Bank. Subsequently, the bank's name was changed to RoyalBank.

Today, Azerbaijan has four processing center - Azericard, MilliKart, TexKart and KapitalBank.
