Iranian Agriculture Jihad Minister Sadeq Khalilian is in the Netherlands to take part in the Global Conference on Food Security, Agriculture, and Climate Change, Press TV reported.

Heading a group of experts, Khalilian arrived in the Netherlands on Wednesday to join the conference that is held in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization.

Ministers from 60 countries around the world have gathered in The Hague in order to develop a roadmap which will explain suitable methods and approaches for the future of agriculture and food security in the world regarding the climate change, with special attention given to poor countries.

The participants also discuss possible innovative approaches to bring together private and public sector finance for investments in climate smart agricultural systems.

The conference that was held with the suggestion of the Netherlands opened on Sunday and will end today.

Khalilian, who is participating in the conference upon the formal invitation of his Dutch counterpart, will also meet with some of his counterparts from other countries.

The agricultural sector has an important role to play in addressing, mitigating, and helping to adapt to climate change. So far there have been many debates over how it is possible to engage this sector in climate change mitigation.
