There is an immense interest in Azerbaijani fish products in Uzbekistan, Caspian Fish Co. Azerbaijan Chief Technologist Sabuhi Hamidov said at Azerbaijan's first national exhibition in Tashkent.

"Modern technologies and equipment allow us to produce high quality fish products," he said. "Our products have no analogue in Uzbekistan and, as the exhibition shows, the local population is very interested in our goods. This increases our opportunities to work in this country."

According to Hamidov, the main purpose of his taking part in the exhibition is to increase the company's export potential and export products to the Uzbek market.

"Today, we have a factory in Neftchala producing fingerlings," he said. "Its production capacity is 10 million tons per year."

According to Hamidov, Azerbaijan is preparing a program to release fingerlings into the Caspian Sea today.

"Caspian Fish Co. Azerbaijan and the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry are working on the program," he said. "The Azerbaijani side is holding extensive work with littoral countries to hold monitoring to preserve the Caspian Sea's ecological balance."

According to Hamidov, there is great potential to produce fish products in Azerbaijan, and this potential will be used rationally.

Corporation Caspian Fish Co. Azerbaijan started working on Feb. 10, 2001. It is a private company in which $56 million have been invested.

The corporation's industrial complex consists of a fish butchering room, a fish meal and oil production shop, and a caviar shop, which can process 300 tons of raw fish per day and produce more than 50 varieties of fish products from 30 types of fish.
