Uzbekistan increases cargo transportation by 11.5 percent

Uzbekistan in January-September 2010 increased the volume of cargo transportation by 11.5 percent compared to the same period of 2009 - to 869.3 million tons, freight turnover fell by 2.9 percent - to 55.4 billion ton-kilometers, the State Committee on Statistics of the Republic said.

By road transport 787.9 million tons of cargo (90.6 percent of total cargo transportation) were transported, which is 12.9 percent more than in January-September 2009. The freight turnover by road transport increased by 5.6 percent to 17.5 billion ton-kilometers.

Cargo transportation by rail has increased in the first nine months of the year by 4.4 percent - to 42.7 million tons (4.9 percent), freight turnover increased by 0.5 percent - to 16.5 billion ton-kilometers.

According to the Statistics Department, the volume of transportation via pipelines decreased by 4.9 percent - to 38.7 million tons (4.5 percent), while the freight turnover of main pipelines decreased by 11.4 percent and amounted to 21.3 billion ton-kilometers.

Cargo transportation by air amounted to 21,700 tons (0.001 percent), which is 99.1 percent more than the same period last year, freight turnover increased by 85.3 percent - to 127.1 million ton-kilometers.

Since early year passenger transportation by all types of transport increased by 6.5 percent - to 4.408 billion. Passenger traffic increased by 9.3 percent - to 55.72 billion passenger-kilometers.

The major number of passengers - 4.326 billion, or 98.1 percent was transported by road. The volume of passenger transportation by this types of transport rose by 6.9 percent, the passenger traffic - by 8.7 percent, to 48.85 billion passenger-kilometers.
Passenger transportation by rail increased by 3.4 percent to 11 million, passenger traffic increased by 12.1 percent - to 2.16 billion passenger-kilometers.

Some 1.457 million passengers were transported by air, which is 25.5 percent higher than a year ago, the passenger traffic amounted to 4.27 million passenger-kilometers, which is 17.6 percent higher.
