British company to build large textile enterprise in Turkmenistan

Engin Group Consorcium, Limited, registered in Great Britain, received a contract for design and construction of a large textile complex in Turkmenistan, the official Turkmen source said.

The complex will consist of a textile factory, producing 20.3 million square meters of raw fabric per year and a dyeing factory producing 40 million square meters of dyed fabrics per year. The construction operations are scheduled for December 2010. It will be put into operation in December 2012.

Turkmenistan plans to invest about $2 billion in the textile industry in accordance with the development program until 2020. It is expected that each cotton planting area of the country will have processing capacity. These measures will help to create about 20,000 new jobs.

Over $1.3 billion was invested in the comprehensive modernization of the infrastructure sector during the years of Turkmenistan's independence. The specialized service centers of the companies Schlafhorst, Truetzschler, Uster are opened in Ashgabat now to provide textile companies with spare parts.
