Georgia sums up first phase of tender for high-speed rail

The first phase of the procurement of design and construction works of the project of railway modernization "High-speed rail - from Batumi to Tbilisi for three hours" has been summed up, Georgian Railway told Trend.

The two-phase tender, announced on Sept.17, was attended by 13 companies, Georgian Railway said.

The first phase envisaged the provision of qualifying data and applicants' primary bids.

As a result, 13 companies were identified, which include China Railway 23rd Bureau Group Co. Ltd.,KEC International Limited India , Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd,  Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd , Yapi Merkezi Insaat ve Sanayi A.S. ,  SALCEF Construzioni Edili E Ferroviarie SPA, Assignia Infraestructuras S.A., CORSAN CORVIAM CONSTRUCCION, S.A., Georgian Representation of LLC "Azerinsaatservis", China Railway No.5 Engineering Group Co. Ltd.,  OHL International Construction, Sinohydro Corporation Limited and ZTE Corporation.

The second phase envisages the provision of technical proposals and cost of works, Georgian Railways said.

At the request of the Georgian Railways, the companies that will win the tender, should staff 70 percent of the employees by Georgian citizens. The estimated cost of works is 250 million Swiss francs.

Design and construction works will end as of July 1, 2013. Preparation of the initial construction project and the technical and economic characteristics is provided by the French-Georgian consortium.
