The International Social Security Association (ISSA) will open a regional coordination center for Turkic-speaking and CIS countries in Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani State Social Protection Fund reported today.

The decision was made at the World Social Security Forum in Cape Town, South Africa on Nov. 29-Dec. 4.

Given the success of the country's pension and insurance system policies, the forum also suggested the establishment of the International Research and Training Center in Azerbaijan.

"The opening of such a center is of significant importance for effectively solving pension and insurance issues," ISSA Secretary General Hans-Horst Konkolewsky said.

Regarding the major reasons for opening the center, Konkolewsky named the country's economic power and political prestige, as well as its extensive management experience.

The ISSA was founded in 1927 and is a principle international institution bringing together social security agencies and organizations. The ISSA's aim is to promote dynamic social security in a globalizing world by supporting excellence in social security administration. It brings together about 340 organizations from more than 150 countries. The last forum in Cape Town was attended by over 1,600 delegates from 143 countries.
